The search service is currently offline. Visit the Services on Server page in SharePoint Central Administration to verify whether the service is enabled.

This might also be because an indexer move is in progress.

We are also unable to check for the crawled content sources, it’s loading infinitely. Search Settings page is also not opening.

Please find the error message of the screen shot listed below.

This error is displaying in many pages(search settings, content sources, crawl rules, file types, reset all crawled content)

This is occurring after removing the index files in the Local Settings\Temp\gthrsvc folder.

We are using the SharePoint 2007 environment and the current schema version is 12.0.0.6318

Tried the below scenarios to resolve the issue, but the issue still exist

  1. Run the command psconfig -cmd upgrade-inplace b2bwait
  2. Went to the index file location for removing the index files, but there are no index files.
  3. Restarted the “Office SharePoint Server Search" service on Search server
  4. Created new shared service provider (SSP).

Could any body please suggest the resolution steps for the issue.
