Indexing a large Excel file

Hi Forum,

We have stumbled upon an issue with the ability to successfully index larger documents; especially larger Excel files.

Our requirements stem from the fact that documents from our legacy systems mainly from Shared drives to be moved into our SharePoint 2010 Farm and then be able to successfully find them within our SharePoint environment.

Typically, Microsoft documents and prevalently Excel documents that are upto 100MB in size. We are aware that the default content that could be downloaded by the Crawl component to crawl a document is 64MB; and just 3MB for Excel files.

We have already increased the MaxDownloadSize and MaxDownloadSizeExcel properties of the Search Service Application to 100 MB and the MaxGrowFactor to 4. This change doesn't seem to take effect; or, the content is not getting fully crawled as per the above setting.

The Search service has been restarted, crawl server has been restarted and the index has been reset.

The above link pertains to SharePoint Online. But, is there any such limit applicable to the SharePoint 2010 as well?

Is there a way to increase the 2 million character limit of the content that could be crawled?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

With best regards,

Saru.
