We are running Search Server Express 2010 with SQL Server Express 2008 as the database, the default install. I've recently had a database, the CrawlStoreDB, run into the 4GB cap. Doing some research, it looks like upgrading to SQL Server Express 2008 R2 will increase my cap to 10GB. However, when I try to run an upgrade of the database, I get a notice that the product isn't in the upgrade path.
One of the suggested articles to my subject, http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/56384dbe-6dc8-4f91-b678-21059728ad0c/cant-utilize-full-10gb-database-limit-with-search-server-and-sql-server-2008-r2-express?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious, suggested perhaps it wasn't possible to use the R2 database with this search server, but I wasn't clear on the answer.
Is it possible if I first install SQL 2008 Express R2, then install Search Server Express 2010, that I can point search to my database server and get the cap space I'm looking for? Or is this all an inherit limitation of the Search Server Express product and I have to find another solution?
Thanks.
