Search showing inconsistent results for "home.aspx"

Hello,

When searching for content using "path:<URL>" or "<search term>", search results sometimes display the site URL (e.g. https://sitename) instead of the home page URL (e.g. https://sitename/pages/home.aspx). Although, this serves the purpose from a end user perspective where users are still able to redirect to the home.aspx page on clicking the site URL, I was wondering why this is happening.

In some instances, you see both the site URL and home page URL in the search results which is confusing end users to think that they are two separate pages with different content.

Any ideas how we can fix this issue?
