we're using SharePoint 2010 Search for our people directory. As the headquarter of our company is in germany we habe many people with umlauts in their names. For example Jürgen, Möller, Müller etc. The displayname of our user profiles is always written without umlauts (Juergen, Moeller, Mueller).
What we want to archive is that a search query which includes an umlaut also returns results - which isn't the case by now.
A search query for "Jürgen" schould return all user profiles with "Juergen" within the display name.
We checkes the possibilities of the thesaurus file ans also the synonyms option within the search center - but we do not want to type all possible synonyms.
A funny fact: A search query für "Müller" within the "local search result" location also returns results with the pattern "mueller" and the other way round, if the query language is set to german. Therefor there seems to be a logic for the handling of umlauts, but we can't get it working with the people results.
Any hints are highly appreciated !!!
