We have a intranet website (not on SharePoint) and we are using SharePoint search 2010 for the search. I created a content source (http://xyzpqr) and then created scope / rule (ContentSource - Intranet) and it searches the pages correctly. The problem is, in our website we also have some links to documents on a file share which does not get crawled. Is there anything I need to do so that when user enters the file name or contents in the files then that file shows up in search?

I have generic application developed for both SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013.
After configuring the search scope and federation location I am able to perform search and retrieve the most used document result as well.
But when I configured the SharePoint 2013 application I am not getting any search and retrieve the most used documents.
Request you to let me know how to configure the these two search options

From my opinion below question is very interesting.
Environment based on SP 2010 - I have one web application running under one default zone ( so 1 url) with NTLM and FBA ( sql ) enabled on it. I need to use one url and 1 zone - is customer requirement. Do you know how to setup search that all FBA users inside search results don't see AD people ? In other world we need to forbid FBA users to see AD memebers but AD members (domain users) should have possibility to see FBA users ( people tab in search results window).

Hi,
I am working with SharePoint 2010 Search Administration project, in our project we need to create content sources from custom SharePoint web part. I am using SearchContext.ContentSources.Create() function to create the content source but the issue is that I want to set the Crawl Settings (Limit Page Depth & Limit Server Hops) values while or after creation programmtically.
I know that it can be done from Central Administration and PowerShell commands but how can I can do it programmatically, Is there a way for that.

While creating a new Managed property from search service application , you can have select "Has multiple values" from Name& Type category.
What is the significance of "Has multiple values" ?

We currently have a mismash of .SHTML and HTML files on our Intranet which are being crawled and indexed via our SharePoint farm. We have noticed that when doing searches, the HTML files correctly display the contents of the files, but the SHTML files do not. When we type in the name of the SHTML file in question in the search box, the file is returned successfully but we cannot search on the content of the files.
We have verified that .SHTML are valid file types to be scanned and are not being blocked in any way. MIME appears to be ok as well.
There are third party ifilters that support this content, but they are an extension of the MS provided ones and simply provide additional content features.

i have one infoPath Form Library, and all the users in the company have read and write access on this library to submit forms, so when any user search on this Library, they are getting all the forms as expected, but my requirement is, all the users should able to submit the forms, but when any user search on this library, they should able to see only their own forms, not other's submitted forms, but one SharePoint group members should have access to search all forms in this library.
can any one please assist me how to achieve this.
We have a system where in the profile service each person has a Place, e.g. United Kingdom. Content is created in our SharePoint intranet site for all countries. What we want to do is allow users to do a search for something. e.g. "Maternity Leave Policy" and have the search results rank/order the results so that the content tagged with their place is listed first in the search results. Currently we are using enterprise search and the core results web part.

1. I created one custom scope for in my search site which is "Url=http://cutom/"
When I search for % using that scope i get different count in refinement panel and Search statistics.
Please help me to understand this count difference. As there is scope applied on site url Site refinement panel should show all results related to that site only.

We have one SSP1 and one FAST server installed in farm. All the application were working fine as expected till Monday afternoon but then we saw Index Partition was showing in disabled state on Search Application Topology web part of Search Administration page. We tried enabling the service without any luck. Next day we saw even bigger issue: System Status and Search Application Topology web parts on Search Administration page stopped loading the content. It keeps on saying "loading..." but never loads anything.

Custom event details:
We tried almost every solution we could find on web. Restarted all possible services on all servers, rebooted whole farm twice but still no luck. With this error we are not able to load our website with all the search results.

Just a few quick questions about MS sharepoint surveys, particularly creating an employee feedback survey:
1) Am I (the form creator) able to select individually which employees are to be prompted?
2) Is the person filling out the survey able to tab between different managers or must he/she click separate links for each manager evaluation?
3) Am I (the form creator) able to see the position/title of the person completing a form?

We have doozy of a search problem with SharePoint Foundation 2010 that I'm hoping someone can help with.
We have an application that is listening on port 14197 and search is working just fine, but only for one or two users.
If I do a search while logged in using the account we set the application up with then the search works fine and it returns records as expected.
If I use a different account - one that has full control over the app, then the exact same search fails with the following message:
We did not find any results for 06BSL.
We've done everything we can think of, including several procedures to create new search accounts, replace databases, etc.
Nothing has helped and all of the info we can find online is in relation to getting search working when it doesn't work at all. In our case it is working, but only for some users. We thought it might have been a permissions issue, but not matter
what permissions we seem to give to test accounts they still don't work. We've set up a test account, for example, that is a member of the 'application owners' group, but cannot produce any search results with it.
The SharePoint Foundation server is running on Windows 2008 Server Foundation, with a separate SBS 2003 DC.

I have a quetsion on indexing xml metadata and hoping anyone could help/shed some light on my issue.
I have two crawl compoments in my SP 2010 farm, say Server A and server B. I am crawling xml files from shared location and making use of its metadata in Advanced search, everything is working fine from crawl component(server A) but when I switch to crawl component(Server B) in the farm, its not indexing the xml metadata and Advanced search is not working, though I can be able to search the xml files.
What could be the problem with crawl component(Server B). Is there any setting do I need to verify from server A? Any help on this would be greatly Appricated.

Hi,
In view of the requirement to add extra meta data properties as sort option in the drop down and other search customisation I extended the CoreResults web part and created a visual web part . It is fetching and displaying records .
But it displays only 10 records,even if there are 30 eligible records . It seems this is an inherent design . So i tried to edit the hidden search object by reflection .
object queryObject = HttpContext.Current.Items["OSSSRHDC_0"];
However this returns null .
Any way i can overcome the 10 record limit ?

I have created one Integer data type Crawl property for number column present in the list using powershell script and mapped with one Managed Property and ran Full crawl but still number column is not Searchable
Please let me know why this is happening. Am i missing anything ?

I want to assign ranking based on the SharePoint ContentType in SharePoint 2010 fast search. I have created new managed property with the ows_contenttype,contenttype crawled properties. I cannot see the all the sharepoint or custom contenttype in the managed property. Let me know any solution or workaround to this.
