ASP.NET calling Search.asmx - HTTP status 401: Unauthorized

I am running into a situation with an ASP.NET application; the server is running on Domain "A" with Windows Authentication and ASP.NET Impersonation enabled. I have to query a SharePoint server  running on Domain "B".

When developing the application and testing it locally from my desktop (Logged into Domain "B"). The site works fine.  When uploaded to the IIS Server on Domain "A" and perform the search I see a message that the request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized

I'm assuming this is due to a "double-hop" issue.  My question is would it be possible to create a custom WCF service on the share point server that would be able to accept the credentials of the user logged into the website?  Keep in mind, that the office here does not use Kerberos.

In order to do this on the SharePoint server, I will have to use the .NET 3.5 framework.  I'm heading home to get my WCF material together for review and I plan to attempt this tomorrow.

Anyone have recomendations on the type of communication for this?
If not or if anyone else has had a similar problem and could guide me to a solution, I'd appreciate it.
